The Blurb reads" Lessons from Literature: Writing a new Nigeria. Join us for an evening of discussion and Nigerian literature to express solidarity with the victims of Boko Haram. To date the terrorist group has claimed the lives of 18,000 people – most recently massacring 2,000 civilians in Baga, Northern Nigeria in January  – and displaced 1.5 million people from the region. Apparent government apathy coupled with weak media coverage of the events has spurred many to speak out in criticism and concern. Throughout history, literature has helped to shape understanding, perception and intervention in global crises. Chaired by our guest panel of readers from Paris’ literary scene, this event will feature readings of classic and contemporary Nigerian literature, a special performance by Nigerian poet and playwright, Inua Ellamsclosing with an open discussion exploring the role literature has to play in Nigeria's fight against the most immediate threat to its future."
